How to replace the Sellwood attic ladder upper stay arms. Models: R28, R31, R36, D27, D31, D36, J24, Q24, A25, A28, A31, A34, A36
Step 1
Pull down the attic ladder and lid until the upper and lower stay arms lock into position.
Step 2
Position a step ladder underneath the attic ladder.
Step 3 - Watch video
On one side of the ladder, undo the M8 bolt and nylock nut that connects the upper and lower stay arms together. Always hold onto the upper stay arm and don’t let go, rotate upwards to ease off the spring tension.
Step 4
Disconnect the spring from the main hinge bracket.
Step 5
Remove the 4x M6 nylock nuts from the upper anchor block on the ladder frame.
Step 6
Replace with the new assembled upper stay arm and refix the 4x M6 nylock nuts onto the anchor block.
Step 7
Reconnect the spring onto the main hinge bracket.
Step 8
Rotate the upper stay arm down and reconnect the M8 bolt and nylock nut that connects the upper and lower stay arms together.
Step 9
Repeat steps 3-8 on the other side of the ladder.
